Extremely helpful personnel at hotel. Good food and relaxed family atmosphere. The hotel arranges entertainment several evenings a week. The hotel has an "activity centre" on the river about 15 minutes walk away where you can borrow canoes, boats and pedalloes or rent 4 wheel drive bikes. The location of the hotel is good - directly on the beach, five minutes walk to the town centre in one direction and 10 - 15 minutes to the river in the other direction. There were plenty of sunbeds around the pool and a small pool bar. Free Wi Fi was available in the rooms and in the public areas.. Agva is not popular with non Turkish tourists but is actually well worth a visit. It has a nice beach and the two rivers offer a range of activities. The whole town has a nice relaxed vibe and nobody hassles you.
The rooms were of a good size but the fittings and furnishings were a bit tired and dated. Some of the front desk personnel could hardly speak a word of English, however they could usually go and find someone who could. The room was not cleaned every day during our stay, but when we asked about cleaning, it was cleaned immediately. It would be good if the rooms were equipped with a sign saying "do not disturb" on one side and " clean room please" on the other side, as is found in most hotels. On balance we really liked this hotel, but compared to Istanbul and other places in Turkey we thought the room rate was a bit expensive for the standard of room. But Agva is really popular during the summer with Istanbul people and so it is a question of supply and demand.

If you are looking for a break from the hustle of Istanbul and you have the time it is worth taking a trip to Agva. . There isn't a lot by way of the town but the beach is pretty and there are two rivers that run through it. We were there the last week in may so just off season. There are a few restaurants and basic shops around. We stayed at the kurfal hotel . It is one of the few hotels near the town. Most seem to be dotted along the rivers further away. It feels like a retreat, all timber beams and budda bags. There is a lovely pool surrounded by sun decks. We up graded to the ' penthouse' with superior decor. By doing this we seem to have done ourselves out of a balcony so def not worth the extra. The bedroom was basic and didnt quite match the rest of the hotel. The price includes half board and the meals were tasty traditional fare, the first night we had a choice of three mains, the second night was a buffet with a good spread, the breakfast was salads, cheeses craeals and cake with coffee on tap. The staff are charming. The manageress has very good English and was very keen to make sure we were enjoying our stay, inviting us on a boat trip and encouraging us to try belly dancing at the live music night! All the staff were very attentive and eager to please.
The staff were really friendly and despite having limited English (bar the fluent and very helpful manageress) they went out of their way to make sure they had translated the menu each night. The only negitive would be that the bedrooms were a little basic and could do with an upgrade. We had chosen the penthouse at an extra cost but the balconys of the regular rooms were bigger. The bathrooms are also fairly basic but the pool area and common areas are quaint and charming

Manageress was extremely helpful and strived to make our stay as pleasant as possible (she is a star), despite other staff not being able to meet even average levels of service (regardless of partial language barrier). Range of organic food was excellent and tatsy, even when served as a bufffet. Entertainment was enjoyable. Trips available, arranged by hotel.
Room was only serviced/cleaned once on a 4 night stay, despite checking after the first day of being missed. No pricelist available for extras such as soft drinks and alcoholic drinks and staff gave different prices when asked which changed when receiving the bill. Had to be served coffee 3 times before it arrived hot. Penthouse room as described did not meet our expectations. Lack of information about things to do in the local area.

The staff were friendly and helpful, despite limited english being spoken.Special mention must be made of Cigdem, who went out of her way to be helpful, and was always checking if there was anything we needed. The hotel is right across from the beach, and only a couple of minutes walk from the shopping area.It arranges various free activities for its residents. We particularly enjoyed the boat trip, and the evening music around a fire in the garden. This is a "typical traditional" type of charming turkish hotel, and has a lovely atmosphere. The pool area and gardens are well looked after, with lots of places to sit. We were pleased to find towels available to use by the pool. We were made to feel welcomed and valued guests
There was a lack of cupboards, shelves and drawers, so any clothes which could not be hung up had to be put on the floor of the wardrobe. The kitchens seemed slow in replenishing the buffet at both breakfast & dinner, with a lack of consistency, in particular, of the hot food available. It was almost a case of first come, first served.
